The REAL M1 Abrams! Chapter 13: History Lesson 1 --- the Tiger II (Part 1/2)

One of the most accurate indicators of whether or not you're doing something right is to look back on historic similarities with the present. More often than not, it will be very clear if a current trend with a past parallel will be successful or not.

For example, the merits and flaws of a very old tank design are still relevant to a modern design with many parallel qualities. If it worked before, it will likely work again, and if it didn't... well, that's pretty obvious.

As it happens, there's an excellent historic example of a tank very similar to the US military's current M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank; the German Tiger II Heavy Tank. Like the M1, the Tiger II has been hailed as an all-time great, despite many very conspicuous victory-breaking flaws.

But how similar IS the Tiger II to the M1, and was it *that* big of a flop? That's what you're going to see here in this presentation. Part 1 is pretty simple to explain --- it covers all the biggest flaws in the Tiger II, which have made it so controversial.

But what about the M1, you ask? That's what you'll see in Part 2.

Here's some sources on the Tiger II's stats and history...

Your views on the M1 Abrams are HEAVILY flawed and incredibly biased. You have mis-informed plenty of people by skewing facts and utter bullcrap like this.

You do good videos on tank failures, warplane failures, and I was hooked by your torpedo scandal series.

But a video that claims that the M1 Abrams is equal to a Tiger 2?! At best, the 88mm L/71 could penetrate about 8 inches of steel armour. The M1 is coated in Uranium and other top secret stuff.

I will not get into a long drawn out argument over this. But I can only imagine the look on your face when the 'heavily flawed', 'over-rated', cash-cow that is the M1A2 Abrams saves your arse when fighting against its contemporaries.
